How to get started in Disc Golf. What to focus on?

Disc golf is a fun and exciting sport that has gained popularity over the years. It's a great way to get outside and enjoy nature while also getting some exercise. If you're new to the game, getting started can be a bit intimidating. However, with the right tips and guidance, you can quickly improve your skills and start enjoying the game. In this blog post, we'll be sharing some tips on how to get better at disc golf this spring.

  1. Start with the basics

Before you can become a pro disc golfer, you need to learn the basics. Start by learning the different types of discs and what they're used for. You'll also need to learn about the different throwing techniques and how to grip the disc correctly. Take the time to practice these basics until you feel comfortable with them.

  1. Practice, practice, practice

The more you practice, the better you'll get at disc golf. Take advantage of the nice spring weather and get out to your local course as often as possible. If you can't make it to a course, practice your throws in an open field. Consistency is key, so make sure you're practicing regularly.

  1. Learn from others

Disc golf is a social sport, so take advantage of that and learn from others. Ask more experienced players for tips and advice, and watch how they throw. You can also join a local disc golf club or league to meet other players and improve your skills. YouTube has an endless amount of information to improve your game as well

  1. Focus on your form

Your form is critical to your success in disc golf. Make sure you're focusing on your footwork, your grip, and your release. Pay attention to the details and work on perfecting your form. If you have a REPEATABLE form, you are focus on the other parts of the game. It doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be repeatable.

  1. Experiment with different discs

Different discs are designed for different types of throws and distances. Experiment with different discs to see which ones work best for you. As you become more experienced, you'll have a better idea of which discs you prefer. Don't trap yourself into one company, try them all and see what plastic fits your hands the best.

  1. Don't get discouraged

Disc golf can be frustrating at times, especially when you're first starting out. Don't get discouraged if you're not throwing as far or as accurately as you'd like. Keep practicing and stay positive. Remember, disc golf is all about having fun!

In conclusion, getting better at disc golf takes time and practice. Start with the basics, practice regularly, learn from others, focus on your form, experiment with different discs, and don't get discouraged. With these tips, you'll be well on your way to becoming a skilled disc golfer this spring. Good luck!
